COMPOSER AT YOUR SERVICE!
Setting Your Scene With Music
Did you know that music has the magical power to make you feel what it wants you to feel? And you can wield that power with the right soundtrack to your project!
We already know this instinctively. Why do we create party playlists? Why do we have songs to help us wake up in the morning, go to sleep at night, or give us courage before a challenging situation?
Have you ever had this experience? You are watching a movie and you find yourself very feeling very uneasy and you don’t know why because nothing particularly strange is happening on the screen?
Where does this feeling come from?
This happened to me several years ago when I was watching the movie The Hours. Two of the main characters, portrayed by Ed Harris and Meryl Streep, were having a calm and rational conversation. But I was freaked out, squirming in my seat.
Then it occurred to me – it was the music!
The eerie and quietly frantic vibe created by the amazing Phillip Glass brilliantly set the tone for what was to follow, when Ed Harris… well, you’ll have to see it yourself if you haven’t already. 🙂
When I went to see the Life Of Pi for the first time in the theatre, I almost cried during the opening credits. The stunning imagery and the ethereally beautiful song written by Mychael Danna told me, before the film even started, that this was going to be a magical experience.
This is what I mean when I say that music has the power to make you feel what it wants you to feel – so the music you chose for your project can be a critical decision.
As a composer, I strive to create music that truly complements the project and highlights its message.
As I have also obtained a degree in Film Studies, in addition to a degree in Composition, I am well aware of how music and images can work together.
Do you want to motivate and energize? Create an atmosphere of peace? Tell a story through a character’s songs? Or perhaps you need a good old-fashioned dramatic film score. It would be my pleasure to contribute to your story and your message!
